Patsy's Destiny Trail & Playground
Patsy's Destiny Wheelchair Accessible Nature
Trail and Playground (Patsy's Destiny) is
located on approximately 9 acres of property
owned Bay Area Rehabilitation Center (the
Center). Open for use by the community, Patsy's
Destiny features a wheelchair accessible
1/4-mile concrete trail that winds through a
7-acre wooded site adjacent to the Center's
outpatient therapy clinic. The trail includes
numerous benches and gardens, as well as a round
wheelchair accessible picnic table.
Patsy's Destiny also features a wheelchair
accessible playground located on a 2-acre
greenbelt in front of the Center. Constructed
by over 200 volunteers in one day and funded by
The Home Depot, Evening Pilot Club of Baytown
and numerous individual contributions, the
playground features a wheelchair accessible
playground superstructure, wheelchair accessible
concrete pathways, a wheelchair accessible
gazebo, wheelchair accessible picnic tables and
numerous gardens.
Patsy's Destiny is named for
Patsy Dowling, a long-time community
advocate and volunteer for individuals with
disabilities. It has been funded locally by the
City of Baytown (CDBG), by the State of Texas
Recreational Trails Program, and nationally by
both the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation
and the Hasbro Children's Foundation.
