Patsy's Destiny Wheelchair Accessible Playground

Bay Area Rehabilitation Center has been making disabilities become possibilities in the greater east Houston area since 1948. Initially an organization that provided therapy services for children, the Center began providing outpatient occupational, physical, and speech therapy services to all ages in 1995.

Bay Area Rehabilitation Center has a history of adapting and adding services that both meet our mission and assist you to live your best life.
Bay Area Rehabilitation Center was chosen by the readers of The Baytown Sun as the 2016, 2019, 2020, and 2021 Reader's Choice Award Winner for Best Physical Therapy (there were no categories for occupational and speech therapy)!

Patsy's Destiny Wheelchair Accessible Playground (Patsy's Destiny) features a wheelchair accessible playground located on a 2-acre greenbelt in front of the Bay Area Rehabilitation Center outpatient clinic. Constructed by over 200 volunteers in one day, Patsy's Destiny received local funding from the City of Baytown (CDBG grant), The Home Depot, the Evening Pilot Club of Baytown, and numerous individual contributions. The project received national funding from the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation and the Hasbro Children's Foundation. Patsy's Destiny features a wheelchair accessible playground superstructure, wheelchair accessible concrete pathways, wheelchair accessible picnic tables and numerous gardens. Patsy's Destiny has been maintained yearly though volunteers participating in the United Way Days of Caring.

Patsy's Destiny is named for Patsy Dowling, a long-time community advocate and volunteer for individuals with disabilities, and is open for use by the community during all daylight hours. Patsy's Destiny is another way that Bay Area rehabilitation Center works in assisting you to live your best life.

PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF THE SUN

Bay Area Rehabilitation Center is pleased to provide the community of Baytown with a wheelchair accessible playground. We ask, however, that you use good judgement and protect yourself from the harmful UV radiation from the sun. When utilizing Patsy's Destiny, please consider the following suggestions from the MD Anderson Cancer Center:
  • Avoid going outdoors between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the sun's rays are strongest.
  • When playing outside, use sunscreen and lip balm with at least SPF 30. Apply at least 30 minutes before going outside. Reapply every two hours.
  • Wear a hat with a large brim to protect your ears and neck.
  • Wear sunglasses with both UVA and UVB protection.

Bay Area Rehabilitation Center cares about your safety and wants you to live your best life!
